Barreled Souls Brewing comes from Saco, in the American state of Maine. Founders Matt and Chris started the brewery with a clear idea: to brew the beers they wanted to drink and create the kind of place they wanted to spend time in. A varied range, unusual ingredients and a strong interest in barrel ageing form the foundation.

At Barreled Souls, wood plays a role from the fermentation stage. The brewery describes a process in which primary fermentation takes place in oak barrels, inspired by the historic English Burton Union system.

Contact with oak during fermentation contributes to the beers’ distinctive character. Further barrel ageing also plays an important role at the brewery. The influence of the barrel gives the brewers additional ways to develop flavours and create different versions of a beer.
